Braam is admitted as an attorney, conveyancer and notary public.
He has many years of experience in commercial property transfers, drafting and registration of bank security documents, property transfers, registration of real rights, and group-housing and sectional title development. He has acted for a number of financial institutions in South Africa, including ABSA Bank, First National Bank, Rand Merchant Bank, Standard Bank and Imperial Bank.
His recent experience includes:
• Representing four of the big banks in South Africa who instruct the firm on commercial property finance, property development finance and other property related matters. In addition to advising them on and preparing their security documents, the firm is also consulted on property development issues some of which require innovative solutions.
• Handling an instruction by one of the big financial institutions to research and advise them on a large commercial development in Knysna, where they wished to sell an erf in a township not yet established, and in respect of which all the statutory approvals yet have to be obtained. The firm provided the institution with a legal and viable solution to its problem.
• Finalising a ZAR750 million lending transaction to a big mining house for a major financial institution, which involved the registration of several notarial bonds over movables and finding solutions to several legal issues that stood in the way of a timeous completion of the deal.
