Practice notes

Prior to joining the firm, SJ was on the legal team that was part of the Transaction Advisory Consortium to the Department of Minerals and Energy on the Independent Power Purchase Project (NewGen Project). He was also part of the legal team advising the black economic empowerment partner to the Consortium that has been awarded the Gautrain Rapid Rail Link Project.

SJ has done various courses in insurance and has worked with some of the country’s leading insurance companies.

His current practice is widespread and covers work on behalf of, among others:
 
• The Attorneys Fidelity Fund Professional Indemnity Insurance Scheme
• One of the four major banks in South Africa
• Leading Medical Aid Schemes
• Municipalities in South Africa

SJ’s recent experience includes:

• Acting for a large bank, currently involved in a huge fraud matter, where the quantum involved is in excess of ZAR189 million

• Acting for a large bank, defending a claim, where the quantum involved is in excess of ZAR187 million

• Acting for a large medical scheme, in a claim against one of the service providers, where the quantum involved is in excess of ZAR34 million

He currently serves on the Audit Committee of Statistics South Africa and on the boards of a number of private companies.
