Veronica specialises in commercial litigation and administrative law with specific expertise in:

  • Administrative law disputes (tender disputes, applications in terms of the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act, The Public Finance Management Act and the Promotion of Access to Information Act).
  • Construction law disputes (acting on behalf of owners, engineers and project managers).
  • Commercial disputes (acting on behalf of financial institutions, corporate entities, insurance companies and shareholders in shareholder disputes).
  • Regulatory matters (acting on behalf of corporate entities in respect of National Credit Regulator and Consumer Protection Commission investigations and hearings).
Veronica has 13 years’ litigation experience in the courts and in alternative dispute resolution forums.

Her recent experience includes:
  • Advising a consulting company in a contract and tender dispute with the Gauteng Department of Health. The consulting company was successful in the South Gauteng High Court and in the appeals launched by the Department in the Supreme Court of Appeal and Constitutional Court (value approximately ZAR300 million).
  • Advising a consulting company in an ongoing contract and tender dispute with the Gauteng Department of Transport (value approximately ZAR1.2 billion).
  • Acting for a major banking institution in a dispute pertaining to Exchange Control Regulations that was successful in the North Gauteng High Court and Supreme Court of Appeal, and made law on the legal ramifications of loop structure transactions.
  • Acting for a major banking institution in which she successfully resisted a claim for payment of additional RSC levies (value ZAR117million).
  • Advising a parastatal in a contract and tender dispute in relation to a security services tender. The matter was settled at the stage of an appeal to the Supreme Court of Appeal (value approximately ZAR10 million).
  • Providing complex procurement and construction advice to a major parastatal in relation to a multi-million rand ongoing infrastructure project (value approximately ZAR12 billion).
  • Acting for the board of directors of a key parastatal in successfully opposing an application for the removal of the suspension of one of the chief executive officers of one of its operating divisions.
