Law firms, accounting firms and banks world-wide can now go to one law firm in South Africa for all their exchange control advice.
Charles van Staden, previously Deputy General Manager at the Exchange Control Department of the South African Reserve Bank, has joined Routledge Modise Moss Morris Attorneys in Johannesburg to head up the firm’s Exchange Control Department.
Says Terry Mahon, chairman of the firm, “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Charles van Staden at Routledge Modise Moss Morris. After 27 years at the South African Reserve Bank he is probably the most experienced professional in exchange control matters in South Africa. His expertise combined with the firm’s wide-ranging commercial, litigation and tax experience means that we are now in a unique position to be able to offer local and international clients an in-house one-stop service on exchange control related matters: from strategic planning, to the drafting of appropriate agreements, right through to the preparation of applications to the Reserve Bank. This will save our clients time, makes the whole process more convenient for them, and most importantly, attorney-client privilege is maintained.”
“In addition, under Charles’ leadership, the firm's Exchange Control Department will be able to advise on transfers from trusts and estates, and give post-amnesty advice on tax and foreign exchange. We also provide general advice on cross-border transactions which is normally offered only by commercial banks. In recent times we have also assisted other law firms in exchange control related matters and we shall continue to do so.”
“Many expatriates living in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and elsewhere, who still have business interests or family connections in South Africa, will benefit from having a South African law firm with our expertise to assist them in their exchange control matters.”
