Effective 14 April 2008 Routledge Modise Attorneys joins the Eversheds International network of law firms as its first member on the African continent. The Eversheds International network consists of 37 offices with over 2000 legal and business advisors in 22 countries.
Terry Mahon, chairman of Routledge Modise who will be joining the board of Eversheds International says: “South Africa is attracting considerable foreign interest and investment. By working as part of Eversheds International we will be able to offer our clients substantially increased resources and expertise. We also will benefit from the networking opportunities and will be able to offer our South African clients a multi-jurisdiction solution.
“Being part of the Eversheds International group offers a more integrated approach in all areas such as HR, marketing and IT and access to expertise. Although Routledge Modise will remain a separate legal entity the firms will in all other respects be fully integrated. It affords local lawyers the opportunity of becoming part of a global legal community, with access to expertise that we do not have locally. A client coming into any office can take advantage of the services available from all of them and can be assured of the same high standards.
“Other benefits of being a member of Eversheds International are professional transfers within the various jurisdictions that afford exposure to other countries’ expertise, operating procedures and standards.”
Alan Jenkins, chairman of Eversheds says: “Eversheds and Routledge Modise already share a number of clients and have worked together on various projects. By joining with Routledge Modise we will be able to offer our clients, many of whom already have operations in South Africa, market leading support. This is a very exciting move and the fit of our firms is extremely good. The combination of Routledge Modise’s strength in South Africa and the Eversheds International group of offices will offer very exciting growth opportunities. As Africa’s growth continues and foreign investors look increasingly to Africa, our new combination will be well placed to assist clients not just in South Africa, but throughout the continent.”
